Advanced Wound

WHEN DO I USE IT? CALCIUM ALGINATE When in contact with serum, wound exudate, or solutions containing sodium ions, the insoluble calcium alginate is partially converted to the soluble sodium salt, and a soft, hydrophilic, gas permeable gel is rapidly produced, which conforms to the contours of the wound and provides a micro-environment that facilitates wound healing. WHAT IS IT? CovaWound™ Alginate dressing is a primary wound dressing made from the calcium salt of alginic acid rich in mannuronic acid. It is presented as a flat non-woven pad for application to open wounds, as well as a rope for packing of wound cavities. When in contact with serum, wound exudate, or solutions containing sodium ions, the insoluble calcium alginate is partially converted to the soluble sodium salt, and a soft, hydrophilic, gas permeable gel is rapidly produced, which conforms to the contours of the wound and provides a microenvironment that facilitates wound healing. ALGINATE DRESSING

CovaWound™ Alginate dressing may be left in place for up to 7 days depending on the patient, the condition of the wound and surrounding skin, or as indicated by accepted clinical practice. The accumulative use of CovaWound™ Alginate dressing should not exceed 30 days. CovaWound™ Alginate dressing may be applied to moderate to heavily exuding wounds like partial thickness burns, donor sites, leg, pressure, arterial, diabetic and venous stasis ulcers, post-surgical incisions, trauma wounds and most other granulating wounds. CovaWound™ Alginate Rope dressing may be applied to moderate to heavily exuding cavity wounds. CovaWound™ Alginate dressing can be used under compression. HOW TO APPLY? 1. Before applying a CovaWound™ Alginate dressing, the wound area should be thoroughly cleansed with wound cleanser or normal saline. If necessary, the wound should be debrided.
2. CovaWound™ Alginate dressing may be trimmed to fit the wound size.
3. Apply CovaWound™ Alginate dressing to wound surface; deep wounds should be loosely packed with CovaWound™ Alginate rope.
4. Cover the CovaWound™ Alginate dressing with an appropriate secondary dressing and secure.
